Engineers Without Borders UK are co-organising two workshops with the University of Leeds Inter-Disciplinary Applied Ethics Centre during spring 2016 to develop a Declaration of Global Responsibility for Engineers.
The goals of the workshops are to:
- Use the model of the Declaration of Helsinki (written by the World Medical Association in 1964 to outline the ethical responsibilities of medical research) as a basis for drafting a Declaration of Global Responsibility for engineers
- Develop an understanding of what opportunities and challenges are present and to be expected for the implementation of such a declaration.
The first workshop will be held on Friday 26th February 2016 in London, you have the option of attending our morning or afternoon session.
Spaces are very limited so please sign up now if you’d like to attend.
This Congress is organized by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations – Committee of Education in Engineering (WFEO-CEIE) in collaboration with the Federation of Lebanese Engineers (FLE), the Federation of Arab Engineers (FAE), the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

-
Teaching the “Architectural Project” with its fundamental anchorage to “sustainability” parameters,
-
Sustainable Architecture education : Traditions and Technological strategies.
Amidst continued discourse around a projected shortfall of engineering talent and talk of deregulation of HE coming from Government, this event seeks to explore how the higher education landscape may change in response.
Our speakers will bring differing, but complementary perspectives to open the conversation. As usual we will encourage our audience to take an active part in the proceedings.
We expect our collective crystal ball gazing to alight on areas such as the future role of accreditation, relationships with industry, fast track degrees, the emergence of private providers and the Teaching Excellence Framework.
Leading the conversation:
Kel Fidler (previously Chairman, Engineering Council and former Vice Chancellor of Northumbria University)
Karen Usher (Co Team Leader, New University for Herefordshire Project)
The 5th EASN International Workshop aims, like its acclaimed annual predecessors, to offer a forum for discussion and exchange of information about state-of-the-art research and development activities, this year in the field of Aerostructures.
The goal is to share high quality, current achievements and new upstream ideas for future research, from running or recently completed European and International research activities in Aeronautics and Air Transport.
In that frame, we are pleased to announce that the Abstract Submission deadline has been extended to June 15th, 2015. Selected papers will be published following peer review in a special issue of the International Journal of Structural Integrity (IJSI) of Emerald Group Publishing.

Up to now, more than 15 ongoing Aerostructures related research projects have already confirmed their participation, most of them with dedicated project sessions. In this respect, the 5th EASN International Workshop is expected to foster the cooperation and interaction between them on a multidisciplinary basis serving as a forum to exchange novel and innovative ideas for future research.
For more information, see the workshop leaflet.
The structure of the event will emphasize into the enhancement of synergies between researchers through interactive sessions.
As such, the 5th EASN Workshop presents an excellent opportunity for discussing, networking and creating synergies for future collaborations on a bilateral basis or in the frame of multilateral projects. To get more information on the event, please contact us at workshop@easn.net.
From 7-11 September 2015 the Council of European Aerospace Societies (CEAS) will organize its fifth Air and Space Conference. CEAS represents 12 European Aerospace Societies with in total about 35.000 individual members. The theme of the 5th CEAS Air and Space Conference is “Challenges in European Aerospace”.
This latest in the Academy’s Innovation in… series of events will showcase a selection of some of the most recent advances in autonomous systems. It will focus on the potential of autonomous systems to have a transformative impact on industry and business, as well as considering the evolving relationship between people and technology.
Autonomy is at the core of modern complex systems as, increasingly, these systems are required top decide for themselves what to do and when to do it. Autonomy now extends beyond traditional robotic areas, covering autonomous vehicles, sensor networks and machine learning. With increasing growth opportunities available, the UK’s Robotics and Autonomous System (RAS) Special Interest Group suggested that the UK has potential to achieve a 10% share of a world market estimated to be worth £70bn by 2020. Beyond this, the global economic value of RAS in broader sectors is estimated at between $1.9 and $6.4 trillion a year by 2025.

The Royal Aeronautical Society’s Education and Skills annual Spring seminar will take place on Monday 23 March at our London HQ, No.4 Hamilton Place, London W1J 7BQ.
Themed, “Where are we now? A pre-election update on the aerospace and aviation skills landscape”, the seminar will look at the skills for aerospace and aviation as the UK faces a General Election. Chaired by Jenny Body, the seminar will provide an update on the Society’s current actions in this field and share the work of related groups AGP and DGP. Discussion will include the broad spectrum of aerospace and defence, MRO and aviation, providing an opportunity for delegates to share views on where key skills programmes have got to and what should be the focus in the months following the election. We are particularly keen to ensure views of academics and AAU members are shared with employers at the event.
The Education and Skills Spring Seminar will feature speakers from:
– Aerospace Growth Partnership (AGP)
– Defence Growth Partnership (DGP)
– Royal Aeronautical Society.
