This Round Table is intended to introduce Dr Gert Jan Scheurwater, the Director of Foresight and Strategy at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), and the work that he and his colleagues have been doing to apply the approaches of Strategic Foresight to envisaging and anticipating potential futures for engineering and engineers over coming decades.
TU Delft has been working to apply these approaches to a range of issues that will resonate with UK higher education institutions, including research security and the impacts of geopolitical shifts; research funding, especially the growing influence of defence policies; institutional resilience in a volatile and uncertain world; and the development of engineering education to address these and other trends. As well as sharing insights from TU Delft’s approach, Dr Scheurwater is keen to gain feedback from UK colleagues on the relevance and usefulness of these approaches to the common issues facing technology-oriented institutions.
The Round Table will be held in Room 2.10, 2nd Floor Engineering Front Building, Torrington Place, London, WC1E 7JE at UCL (entry via the Engineering Faculty Reception, just off Torrington Place) from 12:00 until 2:00 on Tuesday 29th October. A light buffet lunch will be served.
