Bashir M. Al-Hashimi is recognised for sustained, pioneering contributions to advanced semiconductor chips test, energy-efficient embedded systems and energy harvesting computing. As Vice President (Research & Innovation) and Arm Professor of Computer Engineering at King's College London, his research has led to substantive innovations and impact worldwide through related enabling hardware and software technologies applied in mobile electronic systems and devices.
With over 400 technical papers and 8 best paper awards at international conferences, he has also authored / co-authored and edited 5 books. He was appointed CBE by HM the late Queen in 2018 for services to engineering and industry and knighted in HM King Charles III’s New Year Honours 2025 for his contribution to engineering and education. He was elected Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering (2013) and is Chair of the Engineers 2030 project working group initiative to determine the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed by engineers to meet 21st century needs. He was also elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society (2023) and membership of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (2023). Influential and visible in Higher Education and experienced in UK research assessments and government consultations, he has secured £25m in external research funding and has received several international awards including the IET Faraday Medal (2020).
Jamie was appointed Director of Universities UK International (UUKi) in November 2022. Prior to taking on this role, Jamie led Universities UK’s research and innovation policy programme (2014-2017) before becoming Assistant Director for Policy Engagement at UUKi (2017-2022). Before joining Universities UK in 2010, Jamie was a research associate and ESRC research fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Education and Social Research Institute.
Carl Diver, is a Professor of Innovative Manufacturing, the Director of PrintCity at Manchester Metropolitan University (ManchesterMet), a state-of-the-art 3D printing facility with over 80 printers across 7 different technologies. He is the Faculty of Science and Engineering Theme Lead for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing. He has an industrial background having worked in the automotive sector for over 12 years in manufacturing. His PhD students and MSc students work on additive manufacturing and digital connectivity-related projects with Industry sponsorship in many cases. He is one of the main investigators in the newly funded £5M Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Innovation Centre in Manchester supporting companies in the adoption of Additive Manufacturing Technology. He is the Deputy Chair of the Gambica University Industry Council. He joined the advisory Board of All3DP in January 2023. He was heavily involved in activities at ManchesterMet in agreeing on the collaboration with Siemens on the Connected Curriculum program. His work in manufacturing has also been published in highly regarded journals.
Tomasz Liskiewicz is a Professor of Tribology and Surface Engineering at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he serves as Head of the Department of Engineering. He has 25 years of international experience in academia and industry, having collaborated with leading research institutions worldwide.
Tomasz holds a doctorate in Tribology from École Centrale de Lyon, France, and an MSc in Materials Science from Lodz University of Technology, Poland. He spent two years in Alberta, Canada, as a Senior Scientist at Charter Coating, leading material testing projects for the oil and gas industry.
He was elected a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 2014 and a Fellow of the Institute of Physics in 2019. He is also a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) Diversity Impact Programme Advisory Group. Additionally, Tomasz serves as Editor-in-Chief of Tribology – Materials, Surfaces & Interfaces, published by Sage.
Chi Onwurah MP is a British politician representing Newcastle upon Tyne Central and West in the House of Commons. She was first elected in 2010 to represent Newcastle Central. She serves as the Chair of the House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee. Chi is a Charted Electrical Engineer and before entering Parliament spent over twenty years working on engineering projects around the world. She has previously served as Head of Technology at Ofcom. Born in Wallsend, Chi attended Kenton Comprehensive School in Newcastle, where she was elected the school’s ‘MP’ in mock elections aged 17.
Dr Lucy Rogers MBE FREng FIMechE Hon FIED is an inventor, author, and creative problem-solver with a passion for turning ideas into reality. A former Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor and BBC Robot Wars judge, she combines technical expertise with an ability to communicate complex concepts in an engaging and accessible way. She is also the author of the soon to be published book 'Up – A Scientist’s Guide to the Magic Above Us’ , a fascinating exploration of the natural and technological wonders of the world above our heads. Through her work in industry, academia, and public engagement, Dr. Rogers champions innovation, practical problem-solving, and the power of curiosity
Professor Emanuela Tilley is a leader in engineering education, serving as Professor of Engineering Education, Director of Studies for the UCL Centre for Engineering Education, and Director of the Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP) at University College London. She pioneered the IEP’s cross-faculty teaching framework engaging over 2,000 students annually in interdisciplinary, experiential learning to address global challenges. Emanuela’s passionate, pragmatic and people-centred leadership is credited for building a sense of community focused on modernising engineering education at UCL.
With a background in industry, Emanuela worked as an engineering project consultant on renowned architectural projects before transitioning to academia. She is Vice President of the European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI) and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She also sits on advisory boards for higher education institutions internationally, focusing on education strategy and innovation. Her research spans innovation in engineering education pedagogies, social responsibility in engineering education, and interdisciplinary learning.

The Congress, which runs over three days, attracts between 80 and 150 delegates, most of whom are decision-makers and budget controllers. The first day is devoted to networking followed by two days packed with high-profile and expert speakers.

The Hammermen David K. Harrison Award:
Help your students celebrate their success through the coveted EPC Student Prize. There is a cash award of up to £500 and FIVE totally free places at the 2025 Engineering Academics Network Annual Congress up for grabs.
The prize celebrates the achievements of different engineering students at the EAN Annual Congress.
Timings (subject to change)
The competition will be opened and advertised early February.
Students will be invited to submitt their 100-word abstract for an academic poster on “The Next Industrial Revolution” by Friday 14th March.
All abstracts will be reviewed by our panel and students who make the longlist will be contacted on 24th March and invited to submit a full poster for display at Congress. We will provide clear technical instructions to entrants and collate the posters.
Full posters to be received by 24th April.
The 5 prize finalists will be notified by 9th May.

You must be employed as an academic in an Engineering discipline at an institution that is a member of the EPC or you must be an individual member of the Engineering Academics Network.
You must not have been employed in any academic post(s) for longer than a sum of five years.
Academics previously attending Congress on a free ECS place are not eligible for this offer (but can book a heavily discounted rate).
The free place offer is for a full congress ticket plus congress dinner and optional basic B&B accommodation.
Travel and other expenses to attend are not included.
You will be expected to attend the whole of Congress.
Only one free place per member institution (non-member institutions are not eligible for this offer).
Places will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis to those eligible for them.
Successful applicants will be expected to submit a brief report following their attendance.
Please note that if an individual if found not to be eligible, they will be responsible for the full Congress fee.
