National School Governors’ Awareness Day

Today is National School Governors' Awareness Day. There might not seem to be an obvious link to the EPC, but in my experience, there is a lot of common ground. A few years ago I had the pleasure of hearing Louise Archer of the Aspires project at UCL outlining a STEM equity compass at the EPC Recruitment and Admissions Forum and immediately spotted the need for a school governance edition. I have spoken with her teams many times since and was delighted to support the publication of such an addition through a case study of my school and how it has used the compass to develop the culture needed to support inclusion and an ethos of equity. The school leaders Equity Compass - including our case study - is available here. I know many of us in higher education support school governance so I thought today would be a good day to celebrate that and invite colleagues to comment in support. Who knows, we might even find we have an unofficial community. Please reply if you would like to reach out to join such a community or share your story and experience.
