The Engineering Professors’ Council (EPC) welcomes the appointment of Greg Clark MP as Minister for Universities, Science and Cities

Professor Simon Hodgson, President of the EPC, said:

“We’re looking forward to working with the Minister to address the challenges ahead and ensure our universities’ engineering departments can remain regarded as being amongst the best in the world.  Developing sustainable models of funding, working in partnership with both Government and businesses, to ensure that we can educate more of the highly skilled engineers that our most innovative businesses need to sustain the growth in the UK’s economy will be vital.

The Government’s adoption of an industrial strategy has been very welcome.  If it’s to deliver the growth needed though, it’s important we maintain excellence across the country at both regional and national level. All universities are significant contributors to the cities and regions that they serve and policies need to reflect this if we are to facilitate access to the development of higher level skills and latest developments in research by the largest number of businesses and students.”

The Engineering Professors’ Council is the representative body for engineering in UK higher education with 78 university members representing c.6,000 academic staff.
