Summary

This consultation ran from February to May 2022 by the Scottish Funding Council, Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, Research England, Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland who asked for responses and feedback on the following points:

  • The purposes of a future exercise
  • The principles that should guide its development
  • The assessment criteria and processes

These questions had been informed by early discussions with an array of institutions, organisations, and individuals who all worked in and engaged with the research sector.

The feedback and responses to this consultation were considered in conjunction with a range of commissioned and internal evaluations, feedback on the current exercise (gathered separately from institutions and individuals), and advice from the programme’s international advisory group.
