HEFCE Grant Letter 2013/14

The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Minister for Universities and Science have has now confirmed funding allocations and the Government’s priorities for higher education institutions for the coming year in their annual letter to HEFCE. The grant letter sets out its priorities for the second year of the new financial arrangements for higher education in England. The Government’s vision for higher education, outlined in the higher education white paper ‘Students at the heart of the system’, remains, and HEFCE is asked to continue to support learning and teaching activity, quality assurance, widening participation and an enhanced student experience.   It mentions further transparency in provision of information – such as that provided by the Key Information Sets specifically.   The ring-fenced settlement for science and research means that HEFCE will be able to maintain overall funding for research at the same cash levels as for 2012/13.
