Chancellor’s Autumn Statement

While we welcome the additional funding announced for science and engineering in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, CaSE have published an interim analysis of Government spending on science since the 2010 Spending Review showing the extent of the real terms cuts.  The analysis updates a 2011 report showing the previous cuts to research funding.  It’s now thought that the CSR will be in early 2013 to set departmental budgets for 2015/16 and the Institute for Fiscal Studies suggests “unprotected” departments such as BIS could face further cuts of 3.2%.
