Some of the datasets have been grouped by university Mission Group.  On 8th November, 2013, it was announced that the 1994 Group was to be disbanded so the data extracts and analyses have been updated to reflect this.

Many of the datasets to be found here are provided by the Higher Education Statistics Agency Limited (HESA). HESA does not accept responsibility for any inferences or conclusions derived from the HESA Data by third parties. Completion


Non-continuation rates for full-time first degree entrants to higher education institutions (HEIs) in England in 2010/11 are provided.  HESA tracks students from the year they enter an institution to the following year (for full-time students) or the following two years (for part-time students) and provides information about where the students are in that year: continuing at the same institution (either on the same course or elsewhere in the institution), transfer to another institution, or absent from higher education completely.  Source: http://www.hesa.ac.uk.

Gender benchmarking – staff and students

If you’re applying for Athena-SWAN recognition, you may be asked to provide a comparison of your institution’s proportion of female staff and students with the national proportion for that discipline.  Here, you can access the statistics for the engineering sub disciplines for both staff and students.

Student-staff ratios


SSRs have been calculated from HESA data by totalling the number of students, at all levels of study (PGR, PGT, UG (first degree) and UG (other)) in JACS Code H (H0 to H9) and dividing by the total number of academic staff on either a permanent teaching only or teaching plus research contract in Cost Centres 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21.
